Airport
The Port Hawkesbury is located approximately 8 km. north of the Port Hawkesbury town limits & just off the Trans Canada Highway No. 105 on Airport Road. The paved runway is 5,000 feet long by 150 feet wide, with radio controlled lighting for night operations. The runway is oriented 290 degrees (Runway 29) and 110 degrees (Runway 11). There is a generous aircraft parking area adjacent to the terminal building with some tie downs for overnight aircraft. The parking area is fenced and well lit for security. Aviation fuels (100LL & Jet-A) are available at the airport. Airmac Flight Center operates a repair & Maintenance facility on the airport as well as flight training, sight seeing flights & air charters. Airmac also maintains two hangars on the airport for aircraft storage. Six to eight privately owned & one commercially owned aircraft are based at the airport. The airport also serves air charter operators from eastern Canada & the United States, as well as business jets, military & government owned aircraft. The airport is becoming increasingly popular as a fly-in tourist destination due to its location relatively close to places of interest on Cape Breton Island & the eastern mainland of Nova Scotia. The airport is open year round & welcomes local as well as visiting pilots & passengers & the general public. The Town of Port Hawkesbury owns the airport & is assisted financially & administratively in its operation by the neighboring municipalities of Antigonish County, Inverness County, District of Guysborough, Richmond County & the Town of Mulgrave. |
