Message From the Recreation Director

Port Hawkesbury Parks, Recreation and Tourism provides aquatic and dryland programs, special events, seasonal facilities, and  parks; and supports various community organizations to enhance the lifestyle of our residents thereby encouraging healthy family living.

Our facilities include the Strait Area Pool that provides public swimming and Learn to Swim lessons for all ages.  The Summit Park Recreation Area includes 3 lighted tennis courts, skateboard park, basketball court, 3 ballfields , football/soccer field with running track and children's playground.  Also,  located in Grants Pond is the CrandallStick softball/baseball field equipped with lighting for night games.  Parks and playgrounds are strategically located throughout Port Hawkesbury for the leisure time enjoyment of parents and their children.

All facilities require ongoing yearly maintenance to keep them operational and the cooperation of our citizens in keeping the facilities clean and well maintained is imperative.

Residents and visitors to Port Hawkesbury are encouraged to take some time and enjoy our picturesque waterfront and community trail system.  This is a great way for the whole family to get away from it all with a healthy and adventurous experience with nature.  Take a backpack, lunch and comfortable footwear if you wish to hike up to 10 - 15 kilometers.  The trail system is also designed with hiking loops if you desire a shorter hike.  This experience with nature is made possible through the efforts of many people.  Please show your appreciation by not damaging or littering the trails.  Horses, all-terrain vehicles and motorbikes are prohibited.

Each season a brochure is made available to the public listing all aquatic and dryland  programs along with special events and activities that are taking place in our c ommunity.  Seasonal program brochures are distributed to the residents of Port Hawkesbury via their mailboxes.  Residents outside Port Hawkesbury can contact our offices to have a program brochure mailed to your home.  The programs and activities will also appear on our webpage along with the  newspaper and radio information.
